A Case Study in using SMS for Conservation
Here's an article I wrote on using SMS technology to promote conservation campaign messages to a mass audience in Mongolia, in partnership with the Wildlife Conservation Society- Mongolia.
It's a very new approach to spreading messages at this site, and many residents have been saving these messages and showing them to Bogii - the campaign manager- when they see her. She's received many SMS responses, including one exciting moment when she texted the community "Please tell me how many posters you see with the headline 'Mongolian Gazelle is our Pride'" and received 80 SMS responses who said they saw a total of 261 posters! A recent quantitative survey showed that 35% of respondents forwarded the SMS messages they received from this campaign to someone else, mostly to family members (37%) and friends (34%). A great way of achieving even greater reach and starting the flow of conversation about hunting laws in the community.
