Pepsi Throwback - A sad American story

Pepsi is now offering a version of their soda using sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup, and it's called "throwback" with their commercials showing footage of the "old days" - a sign of how far America has moved from away from using more natural ingredients in our food.

We are a country reliant on corn - I won't preach too much about it here since movies such as Food Inc. and books like Omnivore's Dilemma do wonderful justice to the issue - and I'm secretly hoping that Pepsi Throwback can serve as awareness and a reminder that most of the time when we are eating or drinking something sweet, we are not in fact consuming sugar, but instead corn. I'll use this post as a plea for everyone to look at the ingredient list of the foods you're buying and eating and see how many contain corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup - and then stop buying them.

So, Pepsi Throwback will remind us of the old days and will give us a taste of what every other country drinks regularly. By the way, I LOVE buying Coke in other countries because it tastes so much better with real sugar! Yet, they will only do this for a limited time. Why???? Let's make a cosmic shift in the soda industry and introduce it permanently!!! Let's be permanently retro!!!

My secret hope is that Pepsi Throwback becomes so popular during its limited time offering that it becomes financially viable for Pepsi to keep it and eventually make its high fructose corn syrup version obsolete. So, I guess in a strange way I'm saying: GO OUT AND BUY AS MUCH STUFF AS YOU CAN!! At least that's my 2 cents on the issue.
